PROMOTING UTAH’S TECH INDUSTRY IN COAL COUNTRY

Silicon Slopes and community leaders in Carbon and Emery counties seek to capitalize on and support Utah’s rapidly growing tech industry. Together, we will invest in new opportunities for the people of Carbon and Emery counties and Utah tech companies. Inspired by the efforts of the Utah Coal Country Strike Team and driven by Silicon Slopes’ mission to empower Utah’s startup and tech community to learn, connect, and serve, we create the Silicon Slopes East Chapter. The Chapter will promote Utah’s tech industry in Coal Country. We support the following aspirations:

  1. Shared Vision: Promote a shared vision. Join together in a shared vision to promote Utah as a vibrant, diverse, and global innovation hub with some of the greatest entrepreneurs and companies in the world. Silicon Slopes enthusiastically supports bringing this state-wide vision to Carbon and Emery counties.

  1. Regional Economy: Benefit from the regional economy. Recognize and support Carbon and Emery counties as a single regional economy that shares common assets. These assets include, but are not limited to, Utah State University-Eastern, broadband infrastructure, a regional airport, abundant natural resources, and a hardworking workforce. We combine these and other assets with a strong social cohesion that keeps us strong.

  1. Regional Center: Invest in the regional center. Price City’s Main Street serves as epicenter of the Silicon Slopes East Chapter. The Chapter’s presence in the regional center of Price City helps galvanize the regionwide benefits of a tech hub in Utah’s Coal Country.

  1. New Opportunities and Pathways: Create new opportunities. Silicon Slopes aims to provide new pathways and opportunities for residents in Utah’s Coal Country to contribute to and benefit from Utah’s growing tech sector. Silicon Slopes East enhances this vision by providing a solid foundation for success, including committed leaders, state and national funders, the support of Utah’s premier public policy institute, and a critical mass of key players.

  1. Support for Children: Focus on the next generation. The welfare of future generations is a vital component of our strategy to revitalize Utah’s Coal Country. A rapidly changing economy requires training and opportunities for our children and grandchildren to thrive in a more technical world, which the Silicon Slopes East Chapter will provide.

  1. Measures of Success: Be accountable. Silicon Slopes East benefits from well-trained planning experts with the ability to measure success. We will use the American Dream Model, developed as part of the Utah Country Strike Team Initiative, to measure the economic success of our endeavor. If we are not meeting our goals, we will make mid-course corrections.

  1. Engaged Leaders/Locally Led: Benefit from local leadership. We recognize successful endeavors require buy-in and direction from engaged local leaders. Our leaders combine our spirit of enterprise with our spirit of community to create prosperity for the next generation.
